One Month

A family friend was generous enough to take photos of Jackson at 3 weeks old and we are so thankful to have these photos to look back on and show Jackson someday!  As I write this post, Jackson is now 1 month old.  The last month has gone by very quickly - parts of it are a total blur.  Each day has its challenges and joys.  I was told by friends that my emotions would be a series a "ups" and "downs," but I wasn't prepared for the reality of that.  It's crazy how one day I feel like I've got this thing whole motherhood thing down and then other days feel like a chaotic disaster.  Matt gets home from work at 5:30 in the evening and I am still wearing my pajamas, Jackson is crying and I've cried numerous times throughout the day.  Those are the days that I wasn't prepared for.  How can you be prepared for the challenges of breastfeeding and sleep deprivation?  I have always been a 9 hours of sleep gal, so getting up in the middle of the night is hard.  I also had no idea how difficult breastfeeding can be.  I thought it would come naturally, but now that I am struggling with it and talking to other women - I am finding that many women have had struggles with breastfeeding as well.  Despite the challenging parts of motherhood, the joys far outweigh the hard  times.  I look at Jackson's tiny fingers and toes and am in awe of this beautiful miracle from God.  We are beyond blessed to have this healthy baby boy in our lives.

Plus One

We are so excited to share that we are having a baby!  I am currently 22 weeks along and so far the pregnancy has gone smoothly.  Thank goodness!  I was fortunate to not get morning sickness and my energy has started to increase during the second trimester.  Looking forward to this journey with our little plus one!
Oh, and in case you are wondering...
Baby boy Smith is due March 27th!
We are so thankful for this blessing from God.

{ A big thanks to Colleen Murphy for the photos! }

On a different note, for those of you wondering about Matt's
mustache - he is participating in Movember to raise awareness and funds for Men's health.

Thanksgiving in a Nutshell

This Thanksgiving was the perfect fall day - crisp, filled with sunshine and blue skies.  Just before dinner, the sky turned all sorts of colors and we witnessed the most beautiful sunset.  A fitting gift from God on a day we are reminded that life's simple gifts are the most important gifts of all.  Black Friday sales don't even compare.

I am thankful for...
my family.
our health.
and just being together.

What about you?

Family Vacation

This past week was spent in the Santa Cruz, California area with my extended family.  We all stayed together in one big house and enjoyed gourmet meals, golfing, diving board competitions, paddle boarding, surfing, a bike ride along the coastline... It was an action packed trip!
Being able to "unplug" and focus on family time is always a refreshing reminder of what life is all about.

Happy Friday!  I am excited to see my family this weekend to celebrate Father's Day and watch my little bro (who is not so little anymore) graduate from college!  Bonus: the weather forecast is warm & sunny!  Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

The day after Christmas, we woke up early and flew to Chicago for a week of family and fun!  We went to a Blackhawks game, the aquarium, ate lots of deep dish pizza, walked around the city and lucked out with a gorgeous day of blue skies and sunshine!
